Why This Matters Now
Nintendo discontinued the 3DS eShop in March 2023. Pokémon Bank became free to use, but the servers will not run forever. Every month that passes is a risk for the Pokémon sitting on your old cartridges. Shinies, event legendaries, and your first starter from years ago could become stuck on hardware with no way forward.
This planner gives you a clear picture of what you have and what needs to move first. Instead of rushing through transfers and forgetting something important, you can work from a sorted list and check off each Pokémon as it arrives safely in HOME.
Common Transfer Mistakes
- Forgetting Poké Transporter. Generation 4 and Virtual Console games need the separate Poké Transporter app to reach Bank. Make sure you have it downloaded.
- Ignoring held items. Bank strips held items and puts them back in your bag. If you want to keep a rare item, move it manually before transferring the Pokémon.
- Overwriting save data. Some event Pokémon are tied to specific save files. Clone or back up your cartridge save before doing large transfers if you have the hardware for it.
- Missing the one-way rule. Pokémon cannot go back to older games after moving forward. Be certain before you transfer.
- Assuming HOME Premium is required. The free HOME Basic plan holds 30 Pokémon. You can transfer in batches, but Premium (200 boxes) makes bulk transfers much easier.

Assumptions & Limitations
This planner assumes you have a working Nintendo 3DS with Pokémon Bank and Poké Transporter already installed. It uses 30 Pokémon per Bank box and 30 per HOME basic box for storage math. Priority scores are based on shiny status (+3), hidden ability (+2), event exclusivity (+4), and game age (+1 for Gen 4-5, +2 for Virtual Console). These weights are reasonable estimates, not official rarity measures. Always verify transfer eligibility for event Pokémon before moving them. This site does not connect to any Nintendo services; it is a local planning tool only.
